277. Infanterie-Division

exercises in Southern France, spring 1944

In the spring of 1944, the 277. Infanterie-Division was moved to the Narbonne area in Southern France. During this months, the division occupied coastal defences and did further training inland focusing at anti-airborne operations.

This photoshoot is based on these two original pictures of the 277. ID in Narbonne. Notice the mosquito nets that were distributed as protection against the numerous and annoying mosquitos in these regions that time of year.

A heavy machinegun team from 4./GR 989 moves forward and sets up position during a training exercise. The fourth company was the so called "Schwere Kompanie" and used the heavy MG Lafette.
